When and how should a startup build a Slack community?

I think it's ideal for open source projects (and maybe companies selling consultancy or pro versions on top)

Hello hunters, I've used slack communities before to keep close contact with power users that want to contribute giving quick feedback and being part of testing rounds. What do you think? What tools have you used for that purpose?
