What design elements can remote teams use to alleviate the loneliness and increase collaboration?

So far, I haven't seen any successful models for remote teams to feel like they're together. Our team switched Async daily scrum to -> 15mins real-time audio meeting, it helps us feel more connected. If you are working remotely, how are your teams doing? What design elements can remote teams use to alleviate the loneliness and increase collaboration?
