The website mentions that Web3 Antivirus emulates the transaction to show its outcome. How does this emulation work? Will I be actually charged anything during the process?

In a nutshell, transaction emulation helps to show you what happens if you approve a transaction. This means you can see potential vulnerabilities and risks without compromising the security of your wallet. W3A uses a call tracing capability to make it happen. Alongside checking the contract you are actually dealing with, it audits the entire chain of contracts associated through calls.
W3A doesn't charge any fees and the transaction doesn't actually happen until you choose to proceed with it
