Is it a good idea to hire friends/family?

I work with my brother, but my general rule of thumb would be "no". Don't cross those wires unless the person you are collaborating with is somebody who you have been working with on projects since childhood. I would never risk my bonds with my cousins or extended family by trying my hand at working with them, only to burn a bridge over creative differences.

I'd say probably not unless you and that person have a previous relationship doing business together. It generally brings too much emotional baggage into the business, which can hurt your relationship and the company.

It's hard to keep business and friends together but it's possible. Choose wisely. I guess it depends on the personality of you and your friend too. Btw, we’re launching in late May. Check out our upcoming PH page: www.producthunt.com/upcoming/eff... Our project is called: Effecto. It’s an app for detailed habits, health, symptoms, and meds tracking. Pretty much for everything that is related to your physical or mental health and every daily factor that can affect you.

Only hire friends or family if you're okay with the potential for things to get messy.
Only if you have previous experience of working together. The majority of cases I've seen where someone hires a friend or family member has ended in disaster!
