Hey Product Hunters! As we all know, launching on Product Hunt is a crucial moment for any product. Recently, I've been pondering the idea of incorporating humor into the launch strategy. Humor can be a powerful tool to engage and attract users, but it can also be a double-edged sword if not done right. I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this: 1. Humor can be a fantastic tool to differentiate your Product Hunt launch, but it requires careful execution. Understand your audience, test your material, and find the right balance to ensure your productโ€™s message remains clear and compelling.

There's a mantra that says better to be clear than clever. So if your humor comes at the expense of clarity, I would be wary. But there's always exceptions.

@lorenzsell I love this! I 100% agree- I get showing your personality is important. But not at the cost of simplicity

No one will refuse humor, but it's crucial to design it in line with your brand's tone. One way to use humor is to "offend a certain group of people," which makes it a double-edged sword and difficult to control. Perhaps you don't need to fill every page with humorous elements, but rather use them in important scenarios, such as when a user completes their first creation or successfully shares it with a friend. Additionally, it's important to ensure that under this style, the product remains clear and easy to use, as usability is always the top priority.

I've found that injecting a bit of lighthearted humor can be really effective for engaging the PH community, as long as it's done tastefully and doesn't overshadow the core value prop. Memes, witty taglines, and clever easter eggs tend to work well. The key is keeping it subtle and on-brand. Memorable examples: the Gong launch video, Notion's April Fools landing page, Superhuman's self-deprecating onboarding. But definitely avoid anything too edgy or polarizing. Focus on delighting, not shocking. And always put the product first!
