How to engage a community of professionals?

Question

I have been running a slack channel for a month now where growth and enthusiasm are good among founding members.

Being small helps as everyone knows everyone.

But moving ahead what shall I do to keep signals high and noises low. I wish the community to be moderately engaged.

Any other tips regarding community management is welcome.

@maxwellcdavis @marketing_baba My only tip here is to make it a payed community because that way there is a natural filter to make sure that your members are not spammers and are engaged

@marketing_baba I don't think engagement is possible without creating any noise in general as any discussion whether it is important or not adds to the daily message volume :)

But you can make sure that topics of discussions are interesting, helpful and useful for everyone involved, so they would choose to spend time in the community without feeling like it's a burden.

The thing that I know for sure: you have to be engaged yourself. Take part in discussions, ask questions, and make sure everyone has something to speak out on.

If you are afraid that new members of the community might feel left out of discussions, try to engage them directly – give them a chance to introduce themselves, and help them find what they joined this community for. Whether it is an answer to the specific question they have or just a feeling of being surrounded by someone who understands. If they're satisfied, they'll appreciate it and come back, thus will integrate into the community naturally 🙌🏻

We use chat rooms like RumbleTalk to connect with each other. Currently, we're having fun with polls so we use that a lot for engagement. This is also a good tool to know what your community likes as you can ask them community-related questions and get feedback.

Currently, I make sure new members introduce themselves and what they are working on when they join.

However, Post introduction they naturally go silent which is something I wish I could change. Is there any tip you can give where I can engage them without adding to the noise in busy professional life?
