How do you leverage SHIP? 🔥

I keep being asked if it is worth launching an upcoming product on SHIP. Totally yes. I find the most valuable things to be the following: ✨ It allows you to advertise your product before the launch increasing your brand visibility. ✨ You start building a list of subscribers. The longer you are on SHIP before the launch the more people you have that could support you. ✨ You can send messages to your subscribers to notify them the moment you launch. ✨ You can import your existing user database and identify PH users among them for your email campaign during the launch. Please share your experience, thoughts, and suggestions on how we can leverage this amazing tool. BTW here is our upcoming page: https://www.producthunt.com/upco...

the homepage now ("Charlie"), behind products that have fewer votes. I can only assume we're getting penalised for bringing non-PH members to PH... (which is kinda irritating since I'm paying PH for the privilege of using the Ship product in the first place)... https://192168l254.com.mx/ES

Hey, Inna! Congrats on your upcoming page, it looks beyond amazing! (just subscribed, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about Newton). Here's a discussion I made on the same topic a couple of months ago, maybe it'll be of help: https://www.producthunt.com/disc.... And we're also launching soon! Here's our ship page as well: https://www.producthunt.com/upco...

@martina_hackbartt Hi Martina, thanks for your positive feedback and sharing the link to your previous discussion! I've checked your upcoming page too, it looks great! Have you decided yet when we'are launching?
Martina Hackbartt
@inna_proshkina Not yet! We're thinking in around a month/ 5 weeks. What about you?

We used the upcoming product page to get something into the wild and see how the response. So far we've had good success with sign-ups and have decided to set a launch date for 5/2/22 so we have plenty of time to dial things in (like my video...). You can see it all here www.producthunt.com/upcoming/adi.... Any feedback you have would be awesome! Your page looks great BTW!
Brian Nutt
@inna_proshkina Thank you. Please follow along and give any feedback you have. www.producthunt.com/upcoming/adi.... And yes, new video is coming soon!

@inna_proshkina I have been admiring (ok jealous...) of your ship page following. Can you tell me how many of your followers are organic to PH? Thank you!
Inna Proshkina
@brian_nutt Don't be jealous ;P Here is our stat: IMPORTED (26,164) NOT IMPORTED (77) PRODUCT HUNT USERS (156)

Hey @inna_proshkina 👋 We're using Ship too - https://www.producthunt.com/upco... - for a product we're launching tomorrow. It's been pretty good on the whole - definitely a good way to correlate two audiences: ➜ People who love your product ➜ People on ProductHunt I guess my worry is that we've *lots* of people on Ship who aren't active Product Hunters. Is that going to damage us if they actually come and vote tomorrow?? 😬

@inna_proshkina @jimbomorrison Congratss 🎉 I did hear some ship campaigns are ineffective, but yours seems successful with 3000+ subscribers. Can you share some tips?
Jim Morrison
@inna_proshkina @distartin Hey Ryan. That's interesting to hear. So some stats: - We imported ~3,000 current beta supporters - We've added ~150 new folk via Ship listing us on the Upcoming page. - Of all, around ~250 are actual Product Hunt users We've launched Charlie today... so you can watch how we fare, on those numbers... then we can circle back tomorrow to dissect whether it was effective I guess!?
Inna Proshkina
@jimbomorrison Hi Jim, good luck with your launch! Inactive people's voices shouldn't hurt, but their weight might be less than those of active PH users.

@inna_proshkina that's my worry. We're sitting on the homepage now ("Charlie"), behind products that have fewer votes. I can only assume we're getting penalised for bringing non-PH members to PH... (which is kinda irritating since I'm paying PH for the privilege of using the Ship product in the first place)... Any other ideas why we're lagging behind?
Inna Proshkina
@jimbomorrison receiving too many votes from new users might be the case. Here is a great article on the subject: https://www.arengu.com/blog/how-...
Thanks for sharing the tips Inna!

Love your upcoming page! Also, your points on what you find valuable for SHIP is spot on. We also have an upcoming SHIP page (we are launching April 6th) https://www.producthunt.com/upco.... What I find most valuable is the fact that we were able to start building a list of early supporters from the Product Hunt community. I think this is going to make our final launch so much more successful!
Inna Proshkina
@joannakurylo Hi Joanna, I love your upcoming page as well as the website. Will definitely give it a try!
Shruti
This was of great help. Thanks @Inna

Here are my thoughts on SHIP Pros ➕ Paid plan gets you exposure and lets you build a list of Product Hunt users who are interested in your product ➕ The email tool is useful for sending out updates ➕ Building the landing page is super easy and intuitive ➕ Can use it for multiple projects, and to validate new ideas Cons ➖ Cost: $79 per month ➖ The product is fairly buggy and the PH team doesn't seem to be focused on fixing it ➖ A lot of sign ups are spam ➖ The fact that there is very low friction for PH users subscribing to your Launch means many of them aren't actually that interested in your product
