How did you get your first paying customer ?

Getting a non-paying customer is often much easier than getting one who is willing to pay for your product. What steps did you take to get your first few customers and then eventually convert them into paying ones.

Offered our service for free while undergoing development, set a milestone that once we reached we would go premium. Users were able to get access to our premium features we planned on offering at no cost, so when payment handling and subscription based service was implemented users already knew the value- and saved big for being early subscribers with the promo we ran for just those early users.
Thanks for sharing @richw . That's a nice strategy. Making the customers aware of the value they'll be getting is certainly a great way to get more people onboard when you activate payment plans. Nicely done Rich.
