Can AI help mitigate climate change disasters?

Can we humans still cope at all with the complexity of the many environmental events? Are we now and in the future able to counteract pandemics, environmental disasters, famines, etc. as quickly as necessary? Do we as humans have the ability to work out solutions quickly enough and at the same time implement them in the best possible way. The last years speak against it. I think it is important that we use AI to prevent such threats as climate disasters or at least mitigate the consequences. What is your take ?

Hi Sebastian, this is a very thoughtful discussion! I personally believe AI can be a great resource (alongside scientific research) for governments and policy-makers to make better, faster and more effective decisions regarding ongoing and nearby climate and environmental-related disasters. However, I think that in order to achieve that; policy-makers must make the decision of acting up against climate change. Lots of predictions of the ecological disasters and their effects on human life have already been made. The IPCC reports were made by thousands of scientists working on the matter and show severe outcomes in the short and long term. But yet; little to no action has been taken. So to sum up; I believe this could be an amazing tool and opportunity that oughts to be accompanied by political action and other mostly ignored scientific data.

@martina_hackbartt Absolutely agree! Only if the policy makers and governments decide to act upon climate change making it a priority, then technology and scientific data will help pave the way.
