I have been married 19 years and I still don't share finances or bank accounts with my wife, let alone sharing with family or friends. 
And the only time that I have known anyone (a friend) offer to split a bill I told them not to be silly and paid the bill myself. 
I guess it comes down to the old saying that you should never mix money with friendships.
