I had around an hour of time with the game, and it didn't take very long for me to fall in love with it. That's a bit surprising since I wasn't very impressed with what I saw from early footage, especially Mario running around "normal" humans in New Donk City.

Super Mario Odyssey 's magical hat Cappy is still a mystery. Is he a ghost that possesses hats? Some kind of alien that transforms on a whim? A hallucination brought on Mario's PTSD from losing his trusty red cap?

Playing , I'm struck by two notions. First, this is an unusually pretty game. Second, its spirit is fresh and original. Yes, it's a point-and-click adventure. But it's also a game about shapes, colors, perspectives and physics. It's that rare thing in video games: an idea that feels new.

The first time I played Gorogoa, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I'd heard about Gorogoa for years, but never tried it. Maybe it was because, even though multiple people tried to tell me about it, the game defies linguistic description: A wordless, hand-drawn puzzle game in which people, objects, and places move across time and space; a game requiring … See more

The first time Gorogoa truly clicks is revelatory. The puzzle game is simple at a glance: you're presented with a grid of four squares, and you can move cards around on those squares. Each card depicts a scene or an object, with hand-drawn art of everything from sunlit parks to elaborate stained glass windows.

A game that can be completed in a single sitting is an opportunity to experience an idea from start to finish without external factors getting in the way. It could be a boss rush that's just a gauntlet of the meanest brutes around, or it could be a touching tale that makes the most of its brief runtime by getting to the heart of the matter.

The Gardens Between is a pretty, bittersweet puzzle game that takes a single, simple idea and spins out a half-day's solid entertainment. Set on a series of small, themed islands, it's a game about time-manipulation that also serves as a test of logic and observation.

A musical adventure game for Switch, PC, and Mac.

Wandersong takes you on a whimsical, musical journey across the globe. You play as a lowly bard tasked with finding the pieces of a mysterious melody called the Earthsong, which is said to be able to preserve the planet. Use your singing to help characters, solve puzzles, and save the world!

Humble Bundle is bringing Wandersong, an inspired musical puzzle game reminiscent of, oddly enough, and Night in the Woods , to Nintendo Switch. The indie favorite will launch in early 2018, and its debut console trailer shows why it should be on your radar.

I want to tell you about a very specific moment in Wandersong. It comes nearly halfway through the game. The bard, our protagonist for this adventure, is absolutely down in the dumps. He's lethargic, mopey, and has downright given up ...
