- This had a pretty good Indiegogo campaign when it was announced! Worth checking outI backed this Indiegogo campaign a while back and they said they'll be shipping these soon, so hopefully that will happen. According to all of their campaign info, their camera / motion detection system is more advanced than what Canary offers (so it won't send you alerts when there's a light shift from moving blinds or sunset, etc) which is why I originally contributed. If Butterfleye can nail it's supply chain and the accompanying app, it'll put up some stiff competition to Canary.
- I have a Nest Protect and it's one of the most simple "peace of mind" smart home devices I own. It's whole purpose is to serve as a higher-tech and more highly integrated smoke and carbon dioxide detector and I absolutely love it. The alarm is super loud and the tiniest features (the light ring with color codes, monthly "check-ins") all add up to make it one of my favorite home tech products that I own. 100% worth it.
- I LOVE my Canary. I constantly am trying to find new ways to make my little city apartment "smarter" and safer, and Canary totally nailed it. Their app is seamless and while there may not be a really obvious "panic" button, it's really easy to make the Canary sound an alarm (which is deafening... I tried it once as an experiment to the horror of my entire building). Also, the little "home health" features built in made me love it even more. Canary takes hourly little reports on temperature and air quality and makes beautiful little graphs, making my data-obsessed heart swell with joy. #1 home security product currently on the market, IMO.
I preordered the Canary after their kickstarter ended. Loved the device. The app on Android was flaky for a year, but steadily improved. Until they added membership. Then they slowly took away all the features I loved and moved them to membership. Now I have a live streaming camera, not a security device.
