I now use Atom as my all-around text and code editor for all but JVM-based projects; plug-ins for CSS validation, HTML preview, etc. abound.

Stylebot is a great Chrome Extension that allows you live preview css code snippets for a live website. Navigate to your site, go to "Advanced" then paste in your code. I use this is conjunction with right-click, "Inspect" to analyze and play with CSS changes quickly.

Chrome Dev Tools have gotten really powerful since Paul Irish started working on it. I like to test and adjust CSS in-browser before bringing it back to VS Code.
