What's the best screen recording app for Mac?

I'm looking to provide a colleague with a screen recording app to record video walk throughs of our software and looking for the best option. Ease of use and reliability are key.

Kap

Capture your screen

I use this one for all of my screen recording needs. A super simple free app that lives in your menu bar. Exports to GIF, WebM and MP4. 👌

I'm a bit bias since I worked on Kap; but as an actual user of it daily for my full-time job, I can't recommend it enough. I've tried many others and have never been fully satisfied as I have with the ease and quality of Kap and its resulting Kaptures. 🎉

QuickTime Player (10.x)

Free. Simple. Effective. It is missing advanced features, but for simply recording the screen (or a window/area of the screen), a voice/audio stream and highlighting clicks, you can't beat it.

Use CloudApp to record and share videos. I also use native QuickTime Player – just click File > New Screen Recording. QuickTime can also record iPhone/iPad screen by New Movie Recording, you will see yourself but can switch to device via arrow icon near the rec button.

Great app that has a lot to offer. It feels almost pro, but it stays quite simple to use.
