RIP Hangouts, what's the best cross platform alternative?

Looking for Desktop client access as well, key feature for my picky friends.

    Slack

Be less busy. Real-time messaging, archiving & search.

Slack's new group video/audio chat feature is fantastic. Far easier to use than Skype or Hangouts for more than two people.

    Telegram 5.6

Archived chats, a new design and more

I personally love using Telegram, it's cross platform and has a lot of really cool features like: -a really cool desktop client -self destructing messages -customization -upload any type of files with an individual file size limit of 1.5GB -secret chats -saved messages (think of them as messages to yourself) and so much more! I've convinced most of my friends and family to start using it with me!
