App for messaging without using phone number?

Apps like "WhatsApp" and "Viber" need a phone number to work. What similar apps are there that can be used from an Android phone/tablet and PC without requiring a phone number? Instead, they could be using your email or an ID etc for making the connection.

    Google Hangouts

New web app for Google Hangouts cross-device messaging app

Hangouts is now more targeted to business users, but it still does the job if you want something that's platform-agnostic, and using your Gmail address to log in.

Great design, cross-platform, secure AND you don't have to share your phone number.

Lovely app, unfortunately ts downfall is its obscurity, few know it exists. I for one sing its praises to all I know, still with so many options it is hard to get people away from other IM / vdeo clients

Telegram keeps on releasing amazing updates. Secure, easy to use messenger with great UX is all you'll ever need. I wish more people used it rather than Whatsapp or Messanger subpar experience.

Favorite messenger, has its all: super fast, great UI and UX, chats foe different communities with quality content, bot platform that is growing rapidly. New releases coming frequently.

The biggest wish is to get rid of notifications that your contacts are on the platform (IOS)

VIPole works with an email address and they're currently working on making an annonymous entry. It's a cool app that protects your identity and all the information you share within is encrypted e2e. Plus they have useful features like wiping up history, editing, message auto-burn. Althought you dont need a phone number to register, you can still make calls with audio or video and make calls to other people who are not using the app. These communications are also fully encrypted even on server, which means no one can really track you.

MyChat does not need your phone number. But this app is different from WhatsApp and Viber as it mostly used in companies for team collaboration on a self-hosted server.

    Remote OK

The biggest remote job board on the web

Remote OK is a job board for remote-focused job opportunities.

I've been applying to different companies for the past few months, and it's definitely the best of class of the remote job boards – Solid design, easy-to-use, great job postings.

However, most of the job postings are developer-focused, so if you're not a developer you may not get immediate value.
