I don't have the time or patience for reading sometimes, and I love learning through people and stories, so finding out about breaker and it becoming integrated into my daily regimen has been a great experience.

Love listening to podcasts on downtime! This app does a great job of allowing you to stay in sync with what friends and famous entrepreneurs are listening to. Great UX as well!

Podcast listeners are traditionally creatures of habit when it comes to the app of choice to access all their favorite shows. Thus, whenever a new gateway to podcasts comes along, it often cops the 'not as good as Overcast' treatment and is passed into oblivion.

During my countless hours on the internet, I find myself subscribing to lots of potentially interesting newsletters. More often than not, they end up deep in my email inbox, unread. The team at Stoop has a solution. They developed an app which acts just like a Google reader, but for newsletters.

Stoop is looking to provide readers with what CEO Tim Raybould described as "a healthier information diet." To do that, it's launched an iOS and Android app where you can browse through different newsletters based on category, and when you find one you like, it will direct you to ...

The Stream Blog
I love using RSS to follow the programming and tech news I care about. Unfortunately, the number of sites supporting RSS has been in rapid decline over the last few years. The reader ecosystem is slowly degrading as well. Facebook and Twitter's dominance is now delivering its final blow to the open standard of RSS.

I found this app to be the most well-designed for a pro podcast user. Its accessibility features are handy and customizable to a certain podcast or all podcasts. It allows a great deal of customization as to how you listen to a podcast.

Overcast is the best podcast player on iOS with must-have features like offline play, a sleep timer, and playback speed adjustments. That said, I'm beta testing a new podcast app from a YC-backed startup that provides most of the same features but with community and better discovery. Eager to share with everyone. 😊

After a year of work, Overcast 2 is now available as a free update for everyone. It's mostly a major under-the-hood improvement, with relatively few user-facing changes. But they're pretty good, I think.

I designed Overcast 1.0 in 2014 for iOS 7, and it was a product of its time: it used ultra-thin text and lines against stark, sharp-edged, full-screen white sheets and translucent blur panes, with much of the basic functionality behind hidden gestures. That fundamental design carried through every update until today.

Podcasts are hard to share because they are hard to immediately consume. Bullet lets you share captioned video snippets of your favourite podcasts from any podcast app so that your friends can immediately consume it.

Engadget
Once you find a clip you want to share, you can snip up to 30 seconds of it and generate a captioned video clip, then share it to your social media app of choice. People are more likely to watch a captioned clip, as they can do so without the need to listen to the audio in a quiet environment.

When someone typically says "a revolutionary newsfeed app", most of the time what follows is a lack-luster, underperforming RSS app, which just copies news articles from the big news corporations of 2020. But that's where Views 4 contradicts this.

Castro 3 brings silence trimming, robust chapter support, an Apple Watch app, and per-podcast settings like intro skipping. Its queue-based take on podcast listening feels as intuitive and polished as ever, and the new optional Plus subscription should help keep development moving into the future.

Castro has long been one of the premier podcast clients on iOS, and its excellent version 2 - with an innovative triage system and delight-inducing design touches - helped solidify it as such. Those strengths in 2.0, however, were mitigated in part by the absence of a few key features that competing podcast apps tout.
