GDC is often about homecomings, and attending for several years now I've had the joy of seeing creators grow, learn, and move from project to project, or watch games they've worked on slowly take shape. In the case of one cuddly octopus, this year was a particularly delightful reminder of that.

Dubbed a "reactive" plush toy, Octobo is a soft, fuzzy octopus that turns into an interactive storybook controller with a little help from Apple's iPad. Octobo, seen above, began life as creator Yuting Su's master's thesis for the University of Southern California's Interactive Media and Games program.
Amidst the colourful virtual excitements of GDC, one's expectations are easily shattered; a veritable United Nations of displays, pavillions, and showcases jostle for your attention.
