šŸ‘‹ Hey Product Hunt! I'm Edgar, an indie developer, and I'm excited to share Protego with you today. I built Protego because I switched to Safari on macOS and discovered there was no way to filter Reddit posts anymore (RES isn't available for Safari, and its development has stalled). As someone who loves Reddit but values mental well-being, I needed a way to filter out potentially overwhelming content. šŸ›  Key features: - Filter posts using keywords and wildcards - Works with both old and new Reddit - Real-time filtering as you scroll - Import/export your filters - Everything happens locally on your device šŸ¤” What makes it different: - Native Safari extension (no Chromium wrapper) - Focus on simplicity and performance - Privacy-first approach (no tracking, no accounts) - Active development and support I'm launching with a Black Friday sale (25% off) and have several updates already in App Review that add new features and improvements. I'd love to hear your feedback and feature requests! I'll be around to answer questions and discuss how we can make Reddit browsing more mindful. Thank you for checking out Protego! šŸŖ„āœØ

This is a missing feature for Reddit for sure! Why did u only make it for Safari? Shouldn’t be aiming for all platforms??
Edgar Sanchez
@nilni Thanks for the feedback! I made it only for Safari on macOS because I started building it as a tool for myself and I only use Safari on Mac. You raise a very good point though, assuming this extension does well I plan on extending it to Safari on iOS/iPadOS. After that I can consider branching out into other browsers, it's just a bit more complicated because I'd have to set up my own payment and software licensing. Apple makes it extremely simple to add an extension to the app store and they take care of all the heavy lifting. I'll need to implement that for other browsers, but I'm definitely open to it.

@edgar_is ahh interesting, I never built a extension for safari before, that’s good to know! I have been always just building chrome extensionsšŸ˜›

Love the idea of having a native Safari extension for Reddit filtering! The privacy-first approach is definitely a big plus. Have you considered adding custom filter categories or maybe a feature to temporarily disable specific filters? Would make it even more versatile for different browsing moods. Either way, great to finally see a proper Reddit filter for Safari users! šŸŽÆ

@_ivan1 Thanks for the comment! I love that idea, I currently only support adding and removing keywords. Also having a toggle to enable or disable existing keywords makes so much sense! I'll be adding that to one of my next updates!

Congrats on the launch! šŸŽ‰ This sounds like a game-changer for Reddit users on Mac. How do you plan to expand your filter options in the future?
Edgar Sanchez
@ihuzaifashoukat Thank you! I've already got a list of filtering enhancements lined up, someone else (@_ivan1) made a suggestion to add a way to enable/disable individual keywords without having to remove them. I'll be adding that on my next update. I also have plans to add keyword packs to give users a starting point when filtering rather than having to type in a bunch of related keywords all at once. I'll also be adding RegEx support, so that advanced users can add a RegEx and and a description label for it.

Congrats on the launch, Edgar! Protego is such a thoughtful tool for mindful Reddit browsing. Love the privacy-first approach and Safari-native focus—great work! šŸš€āœØ @edgar_is

Thank god someone made this - was about to quit Reddit because my feed turned into a Taylor Swift concert spam fest last week šŸ˜… The spoiler blocking is clutch too, specially after missing that one GOT episode and having Reddit completely ruin it for me. Quick q - does it sync filters across devices? Would love to have the same setup on my work and personal Macs.
