an invention for everyone
revolutionary audio technology in a tool anyone can use
to learn, to create, to play.
designed to enable.

…exactly what does imitone do?

imitone translates your voice into MIDI, the language of digital music.

As you sing into your microphone, imitone's unique technology will detect musical notes and instantly play them.
This can be used to control almost any music app or digital instrument.

imitone also understands humming, whistling and most instruments.

…what do I need to use it?

imitone should run on almost any PC or Mac less than 8 years old.

You also need a microphone, some headphones and a music-making app.

For best results, use imitone in a quiet place—away from distracting sounds like people talking, television, or music.

imitone may work on machines below the minimum requirements, but we can't guarantee this!

…a music-making app?

Digital music-making almost always involves three parts: a controller, a "DAW" and instruments. The DAW is where music is played, recorded and arranged. imitone is a controller, designed for compatibility with as many DAWs and instruments as possible.

Popular DAWs for beginners include GarageBand, FL Studio and MixCraft. All of these come with instruments.

We are working on a DAW guide to help new imitone users get started.

Note: imitone will eventually include several instruments, but it will still be most useful when connected to a DAW.

…a microphone?

imitone does not need an expensive microphone, and can work with almost anything as long as it can clearly hear your voice.

imitone may be faster and more accurate with a high-quality mic setup, especially in noisy or echoing spaces.

…headphones?

While not required, headphones are strongly recommended. This is because imitone works best when it hears only your voice.

When using imitone with speakers, try to position your microphone so that it picks up as little feedback as possible.

…how does it compare?

Though it isn't finished yet, imitone's resonator technology makes it one of the fastest and most accurate voice pitch trackers.

imitone specializes in understanding your voice, feels like playing an instrument, and works with any microphone.

We are continuing our research to build a technology that works "like magic".

…what's the latency?

imitone can respond in under 30 milliseconds for notes in the low tenor range. At higher pitches, latency is exponentially lower, down to a minimum of a few milliseconds for soprano voice or whistling.

imitone's latency is in addition to any audio latency coming from the operating system or your hardware.

…what do I get when I order?

After placing an order, you will get instant access to the imitone beta. While it's still a work-in-progress, this app is ready to use on Windows and Mac OS X. Updates are free, including the finished app.

You will also gain access to the imitone VST alpha for Windows.

While imitone has some of the most advanced voice pitch recognition in the world, it isn't perfect yet. It can take some practice to get good results. We are committed to improving our technology until it works like magic.

…is there a mobile app?

Not yet. We are working on apps for iOS and Android, which will have a separate beta test.

This pre-order does not include access to any mobile apps.

…is there a free trial?

We are striving to make a tool that works like magic, and it isn't there just yet. We will make a free trial available when it does.

The beta is available for those who can't wait to get started with imitone, or who want to support the project.

Follow the project below, and we will E-mail you when a free trial is ready.
